Burning Images From Ground Zero
By Roger Plichta

East Cobb Criminal defense attorney and appointed Muncipal Court Judge, Roger Plichta, presented the Chatahoochee Plantation Community Association two limited edition books on the World Trade Center which were autographed by the attending dignitaries at the Landmark Memorial Flag Dedication. One book was donated to the East Marietta library. The second copy was presented to the New York Central Library for all Cobb Countians to review when visiting New York City. Last Month, Roger attended a rededication ceremony at Ground Zero where he hung a banner from the Marietta Rotary Club.
The following are reflections from his visit.

Imagine the size of two football fields 30 feet below street level, the continuous sound of jackhammers,
highway construction lights, hundreds of men, trucks, dust, swinging cranes and the accompanying noise,
an area cordoned off and hallowed ground protected by police whose lives were spared. This was the
scene at 2 a.m. Saturday morning!!

American T.V. was not allowed to show the shoes and clothing lined up along the curb with human remains still inside them to be used for matching and identification purposes. This American disaster may be due to the great freedom which we have been given and have taken for granted until now. Freedom - balanced with responsiblity.

America will forever be changed. 9/11 was a call of emergency to a country which was teetering into self pity, self disrespect, and weakness. We learned from this that we will always be vulnerable. That LOVE of oneself and family, PRIDE in our country, HOPE in the future should be our direction. JOINING together in a tight bond with mother, father, children, and loved ones is what America is all about. It took a disaster to bring us together and to wake us up. Even with all its problems, America is and always will be the greatest country in the world.

Viewing the two blue beams from Ground Zero touching the clouds, they seem to be beacons paving the way to heaven, where we know all the victims are.
